When Reunion Island-based duo Romane and Gaël Marimoutou put out their debut EP E In Motion, they did so under the enigmatic moniker OMA. It was an apt tribute to the couple’s art, an expression of organic soundscapes, folk-percussive layers, and French-pop vocals that defied genres. Now, mirroring the evolution of duo to trio with the birth of their son, OMA is reborn as Romane & Gaël, bringing to the forefront the relationship that made it all possible.

Along with this transformation, comes their debut full-length album. Fittingly titled Together, the album explores themes of family and love through experimental electronic pop laden with intricate polyrhythms, and a weaving together of heavy synths with traditional Reunionese percussive instruments and Romane’s otherworldly voice.

Together journeys from catchy, poppy hooks, to hushed and intimate moments, all while displaying heavy influences from Maloya to South Africa’s amapiano scene. The connecting thread throughout Gaël’s spatial arrangements is Romane’s delicate vocals, weaving effortlessly between the plaintive and joyous, the highs and lows of pregnancy and welcoming their son Paco into the world.

Lorsque le duo réunionnais Romane et Gaël Marimoutou a sorti son premier EP E In Motion, c'est sous le surnom énigmatique d'OMA. C'était un hommage approprié à l'art du couple, une expression de paysages sonores organiques, de couches de percussions folkloriques et de voix pop française qui défiaient les genres. Maintenant, reflétant l'évolution du duo au trio avec la naissance de leur fils, OMA renaît sous le nom de Romane & Gaël, mettant au premier plan la relation qui a rendu tout cela possible.

Parallèlement à cette transformation, vient leur premier album. Intitulé à juste titre Together, l'album explore les thèmes de la famille et de l'amour à travers une pop électronique expérimentale chargée de polyrythmies complexes et un tissage de synthés lourds avec des instruments de percussion traditionnels réunionnais et la voix d'un autre monde de Romane.

Mêlant, des éléments accrocheurs et poppy à des moments feutrés et intimes, tout en affichant de fortes influences du Maloya et de la scène Amapiano sud-africaine. Le fil conducteur des arrangements spatiaux de Gaël est la voix délicate de Romane, voguant sans effort entre le plaintif et le joyeux, les hauts et les bas de la grossesse accueillant leur fils Paco au monde.
